24 July 2010
England’s Kelly Tidy has been selected for the European Junior Ryder Cup team which will take on the USA youngsters at Gleneagles Hotel, Scotland, from September 27-28.
Kelly, the British ladies’ champion, will be making her third appearance in a junior European team. "I was really hoping to be selected. The Junior Ryder Cup and the Junior Solheim Cup are the best tournaments I have every played, just absolutely amazing," said Kelly.
"Both times I have played the matches have been in America, so it's going to be different to be here and there will be a lot more support for the European team. I'm looking forward to playing Gleneagles."
The 18-year-old England international from Royal Birkdale played in the 2008 Junior Ryder Cup match and last year was a member of the European side in the Junior Solheim Cup, when she was the top scorer with a 100 per cent record of three wins from three matches.
Kelly’s selection, together with that of the rest of the team, was announced at the end of the European Young Masters in Hungary.
The European team comprises six under-16 players and six under-18s (three boys and three girls in each category) and will be led by Captain Gary Stangl and his Vice Captain Fiona Norris.
The American team will be made up of six under-18 boys and six under-18 girls, and will be led by M. G. Orender.
On the first day, September 27, there will be foursomes followed by a mixed fourball, and day two, September 28, will feature the singles matches.
Once the contest is over, the two teams will travel to The Celtic Manor Resort in Wales to play a ‘Friendship Match’ on The Twenty Ten Course ahead of The 2010 Ryder Cup and meet the players from Colin Montgomerie’s European Team and Corey Pavin’s American Team.
