Norfolk’s Amber Ratcliffe retains English U16 schools’ title

21 July 2010

Norfolk’s Amber Ratcliffe has become the first girl to successfully defend the English U16 schools’ championship.

The 14-year-old from Royal Cromer retained her title at Delamere Forest, Cheshire, where she scored one-over 73 and level par 72, exactly matching the CSS for the day.

“I really wanted to win again and I am so pleased, it’s a good feeling,” said Amber, who trains with EWGA’s Midlands Select Squad.

She has a remarkable record in schools golf and is also the reigning Norfolk and South East of England schools’ champion. Amber will represent England in the two annual schools’ internationals against Wales and Scotland.

The runner-up was Olivia Winning of Rotherham, Yorkshire, who shot 75, 74. Third place went to Alice Hewson, 12, of Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, who was also third in the English schools’ championship. She scored 78, 72.
