Bronte Law wins Northern ladies’ championship

Cheshire teenager Bronte Law won the Northern ladies’ championship when she beat Lancashire’s Emma Clegg 2/1 in the final at Clitheroe.
This is the latest in a string of titles for Bronte, 15, who will represent England in the girls’ Home Internationals and the European Young Masters.
The championship produced excellent golf and low scoring. Cheshire’s Rachael Goodall set a new course record when she shot six-under par 68 in the second qualifying round. She added it to her first round 76 to lead the qualifiers by two shots.
Meanwhile, Emma Clegg, playing on her home course, had a hole-in-one on the 17th in her second round which helped her to a two-under 72.
The championship was contested by the top 16 players in the 36 hole strokeplay qualifying. The next eight played for the Millennium Bowl which was won by Steph Hall (Lindrick) who beat Nicola Rawlinson (Royal Birkdale) 4/3 in the final.
Lancashire won both the team scratch shield and the handicap cup. The Slazenger Trophy was won by Ellie Robinson (Middlesbrough) with gross 149.
